TriageDesk vs Intercom: no autonomous path, no per-outcome bill
Every tool in this category can put a message in front of somebody. The question worth asking is what happens before a human sees it: does anything answer on its own, and what does that cost if it does?
What Intercom is
Intercom is a customer messaging platform with Fin, an AI agent that resolves conversations autonomously and bills per outcome.
$29 per seat/mo for Essential, $85 per seat/mo for Advanced, $132 per seat/mo for Expert, plus Fin at $0.99 per Fin outcome.
What TriageDesk is
TriageDesk reads every message that arrived in your shared inbox since the last time it ran, works out what each one is, and writes one drafted reply per thread. Nothing sends until a person taps approve.
- 3 categories, including complaints, legal threats and cancellations, are never drafted at all. They are handed to a human undrafted, as a branch in the routing code rather than a confidence threshold.
- The pass resumes from a watermark and asks the provider once for a bounded window of unread mail, up to 60 messages, rather than polling.
- The dispatcher moves at most 20 due replies per tick, and every approved reply still waits 120 seconds behind a kill window before it sends.
- $9/month per inbox, priced per mailbox rather than per person reading it, with no per-resolution or per-outcome charge on top.

Choose Intercom when
- You want an AI agent that can resolve a conversation autonomously end to end, not one that only drafts.
- You want live chat and a messaging platform alongside the AI layer.
- You are comfortable with an outcome-based charge on top of seat pricing.
Choose TriageDesk when
- You want no autonomous path at all. TriageDesk has no code path that reaches the mail rail without a human approval first.
- You do not want to be billed for an outcome that just means the customer did not write back.
- You want a flat per-inbox price with no per-outcome metering.
What moving involves
Fin bills per outcome, and by Intercom's own definition an outcome includes a customer who simply did not write back, so leaving it removes that metered risk along with the seat cost. TriageDesk has no autonomous path to replace Fin with, since nothing in TriageDesk sends without a human tap, so what does not come across is any autonomous resolution capability at all, by design.
Questions
Does TriageDesk resolve conversations the way Intercom's Fin does?
No, and deliberately not. Fin resolves autonomously and charges per outcome, and by Intercom's own definition an outcome includes a customer who simply did not write back. TriageDesk has no autonomous path at all: nothing sends without a human tap, so there is nothing to bill by resolution.
How much does Intercom cost?
$29 per seat/mo for Essential, plus Fin at $0.99 per Fin outcome. TriageDesk is $9/month per inbox, flat, with no per-outcome charge.
Every tool on the shortlist, in one grid
If the job is genuinely collaborative, several people reading and assigning the inbox together, Front is the right buy. If you are ready to move support out of the mailbox into a dedicated ticketing system, Zendesk is the right buy. If you want an AI agent that resolves conversations autonomously, Help Scout's AI Answers or Intercom's Fin is the right buy, and TriageDesk has no autonomous path to offer instead. TriageDesk is the right answer for one shape of problem: a mailbox that should stay a mailbox, triaged overnight, with every reply waiting on a human tap.
